On the open museum day, the jazz duo “stratum” gave a live jazz performance inside the archeological premises of ancient agora in Athens.
It is the first ever time that jazz music is being played live in the archeological site and that by itself makes the performance a significant event. Stratum are Alexios Antonopoulos on drums and Panagiotis Christofis on tenor saxophone.
Stratum were chosen among other jazz musicians because their music has its basis on the modern American jazz sound of the 60’s (Coltrane,Shepp,Evans) and this is linked with an additional fact that the archeological site was delivered to the public in the mid 60’s from American archeologists…
Both Alexios and Panagiotis from Stratum mentioned that they felt very honored and at the same time overwhelmed by this unique live jazz performance.
